A Friendship That Never Was
Not everyone who claims to be a friend has what it takes to live up to the label. The bible even says that "there exist companions disposed to break one another to pieces" (Proverb 18:24)
Earlier this year I found myself in a clique. It wasn't planned but I was happy and grateful for having found the friends I had anticipated. They stood out from the rest or maybe it was vice versa but either they were good enough to be have the title of being friends.
Friendships are inevitable. According to www.wikipedia.org. friendship is a relationship between two or more people who hold mutual affection for each other. That's what I thought we had but then it all changed overnight. What happened? Things weren't the same anymore.
When friendships end its always sad and most of the time you feel like its the end of the world. Feelings of loneliness and depression mount in. Sleepless nights trying to figure what went wrong because everything was so perfect. Where to from here because they're all I know. Being in varsity allows us as individuals to mature and leave the high school phase behind but its never that easy. The thought of starting from the bottom mid-year is terrifying but it had to be done.
Cliques are merely a group of friends as long as you handle yourself as an independent adult and not a catty teenager. Adjusting to varsity is just like high school but a lil intensified. You're dumped with so much academic work and have to figure out how to live with a roommate. You learn to make new friends, find a home away from home and most importantly you figure out who you really are. Its been a bumpy start I wont lie but knowing what you're all about and sticking to your values will keep you through anything. Don't stay in a friendship if only one person is gaining and other is not. You're worth much more, perhaps you don't see it now, but things will soon work out for.
